A moment in cultural history as the Opera House marks its final year before renovation with a film campaign

2026 will be a year that leaves its mark on the history of the Opera House. After generations of fine dining, celebrations, and gatherings, the Opera House has now entered its final year before a major, multi-year renovation begins. To mark this occasion, a film campaign is being launched that captures the spirit of what is known as “The Last Year.”

The film is a tribute to the building and everything it has housed—and continues to house. Through a lone dancer moving through an empty Opera House, the viewer is guided through some of the building’s most iconic rooms: the Opera Cellar, the Opera Bar, Café Opera, the Opera Terrace, the Grand Salon, and the kitchen. The journey through these rooms serves as a poetic reminder of all the stories and moments that have shaped the building over its long history.

The film also conveys the campaign’s message:One House. Thousands of Stories.A house where generations have come together, celebrated, and created memories. During “The Last Year,” guests are invited to experience the house one last time—with this simple invitation:“The House Is Yours. One Last Year.”And perhaps most importantly:“If Not Now, When?”

The campaign marks the beginning of 2026, when activities at the Opera House will continue to be as vibrant as ever. Throughout the year, the restaurants, bars, and banquet halls will be open to guests, dinners, and events, while the Opera House prepares for its next chapter.

“This is a building that has meant a great deal to generations of both Stockholmers and international guests. The film is our way of capturing the essence of what the Opera House is—and what it can still be during its final year before the renovation,”says Oscar Durling, CEO.

During this period, all venues at the Opera House—including Operakällaren, the banquet hall, Café Opera, Operabaren, Bakfickan, and Othilia—will be closed. At the same time, it’s not impossible that the people behind these concepts may resurface in new contexts and at other locations during the years the Opera House is closed. With this campaign, the Opera House invites both individuals and businesses to enjoy the venue during this final year—for dinners, celebrations, and large events in one of the city’s most historic settings.

The film premiered on March 10, 2026, and marks the kickoff of*The Last Year*at the Opera House.
